After a week of all the focus on Tiger, we can get back to some of the other players on the tour! Tiger was absent from this week’s final competition before a month off over the Christmas period. Last week Rickie Fowler started off the first 7 hole with 7 birdies and finished with a scintillating score of -11. This weeks final day didn’t finish in as spectacular fashion as the week before, however the Joberg open had to be pushed back to a Monday finish due to severe thunderstorms.
Some of Britain’s brightest young stars in the women’s game tee’d up this week in Dubai. 2 of our Solheim Cup stars, Charley Hull and Georgia Hall set off at a brilliant pace and were just behind the leader after day 1. However, Georgia Hall slipped away leaving Charley Hull and Dame Laura Davies to battle it out at the top. Angel Yin was not distracted by the man in a santa suit who tried to put players off on the tees and greens and instead claimed the Dubai Ladies Classic after a 3 way play off.
A modified competition was also played this week in which players played a foursomes format. The Irish duo of Shane Lowery and Graeme McDowell raced into a share of the lead on day 3. This event saw a handful of ladies take part in the fun event, most noticeably Lexi Thompson paired up with Tony Finau. It was won by Steve Stricker and Sean O’Hair.
