Greenkeeping Update with Greg 20/3/17

Some sad news to bring this week. Anthony Piggins has made the difficult decision to move on to pastures new. Anth has been at Hunley for 22 years and in his time, he has been a key figure in the greens department. His skill and commitment have contributed significantly to the progress made on the course, particularly in recent years. We’re sorry to see him leave, however we understand his need for a change and a new challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to wish him the best of luck and I’m sure you will all join me in doing the same.

Obviously we will now begin the search for a replacement and although Anth will be leaving a big hole to fill, the calibre of individual that has joined the team in recent years gives us plenty of reason to remain positive.

On the course, we have been getting all areas tidied up with the mowers. As a result the course is showing good definition for the first time this year and surfaces have come out of the winter in good shape.

Some of the bunkers are being returned to play and most of the winter work is now ready for use once again. Toon’s Tier will be back in play this coming weekend, although the new sections of green will not be ready for hole placements for sometime yet. Please be sensible though when playing from the new turf, using a putter when on the areas that will eventually become part of the green. The area still has a faint white line, but once the signs are removed then it will be in play permanently.

That’s all for now though,

Cheers

Greg
